AR2413 UBUNTU DRIVER
Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. I have Ubuntu Peter R peterr-vtown wrote on OK, got the madwifi drivers going. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

Can’t get Atheros AR2413/AR2414 wireless card to connect
Perhaps that’s the next thing. This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. Done grep is already the newest version. As a result this bug is being closed. For some Atheros 5K RF MACs, the madwifi driver loads buts fails to correctly initialize the hardware, leaving it in a state from which ath5k cannot recover. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the ‘needs- upstream- testing’ text.

Wireless interface physical id: I set these guys and rebooted. So will close this problem. Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue.
Use Jockey to select one driver or the other. I installed the updated linux-rt kernel and, after a restart, my Atheros AR is gone from the network manager applet it used to work perfectly with the previous rt kernel.
